Mikati Holds Meeting to Discuss

Today, Tuesday, Prime Minister Najib Mikati convened a meeting at the Grand Serail, which included Minister of Displaced Persons Issam Sharafeddine, Acting Director General of General Security Major General Elias Baysari, and Secretary General of the Supreme Defense Council Major General Mohammad Mustafa. The meeting was dedicated to discussing the new wave of Syrian displacement into Lebanon.

After the meeting, Minister Sharafeddine stated: “The meeting focused on the new wave of Syrian displacement that has been occurring for three weeks, which represents a very serious phenomenon, as the displaced are entering through illegal crossings. We discussed a plan to deter this matter in a studied manner, including monitoring the borders and coordinating with the responsible authorities in Syria, and communicating with military, intelligence, and general security centers to coordinate with the local government and municipalities to hold accountable anyone who hosts any of the illegal displaced persons. Meanwhile, we are discussing the imposition of penalties, and this matter is under study. It was also agreed to contact Syria at the highest level, and since the issue is security-related, Major General Baysari will handle these communications.”

### Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee Meeting

Mikati discussed with a delegation from the Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee, headed by Basel Hassan, the "integrated strategy" regarding the status of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, which includes various aspects related to their legal, political, and security situations. The mechanism for adopting this strategy and implementing it with some adjustments concerning specific security and legal issues was discussed, especially in light of the current circumstances surrounding the Palestinian reality, starting from the Ain al-Hilweh camp.

After the meeting, Hassan stated: “Today, we have a type of common agreement between Palestinians and Lebanese regarding a mechanism that addresses the Palestinian reality from a different perspective and helps Lebanon manage its economic burdens in facing its crisis, contributing to the stability of its political situation.” He added: "The current strategy discussed with the Prime Minister has undergone discussions with all state institutions and is the best means to create better prospects for the Palestinian presence in Lebanon along all the aspects mentioned earlier."

### Meeting with Bou Faour

Mikati also met with MP Wael Bou Faour from the Democratic Gathering, discussing the repercussions impacting security, health, social, and economic spheres. He noted that “all measures are temporary fixes. The solution lies in electing a new president, and it is clear that the will for settlement has not prevailed. We are awaiting September, which will be full of foreign envoys.” He emphasized that “if there is no internal will stemming from the Lebanese interior from MPs and political blocs, no external efforts will yield any result.”

### Meeting with MP Hawat

President Mikati received MP Ziad Hawat, accompanied by the Head of the Jbeil Municipal Union, Fadi Martinos. MP Hawat announced after the meeting: “We came to discuss with Mikati the issue of the Jbeil Garbage Dump and its treatment center, as well as how to ensure the continuity of this vital facility, which is an environmental safety valve for the Jbeil area. He promised to provide all facilities, requirements, and financial necessities to get it back on the right track to ensure its operation.”

### Meeting with the Lebanese Ambassador to Russia

Mikati also received the Lebanese Ambassador to Russia, Shauqi Bou Nasar, who stated after the meeting: “We discussed some matters related to bilateral relations between Lebanon and the Russian Federation and I informed the Prime Minister about the conditions of the Lebanese community in Russia, especially students, in light of the rather difficult conditions facing the region due to military operations in Ukraine. I assured the Prime Minister that all community members are well, especially the students, and that the Russian-Lebanese relations are good, and hopefully will develop further for the benefit of Lebanon.”

### Meeting with Ali Hassan Khalil

Finally, President Mikati received the political assistant to the Speaker of Parliament, MP Ali Hassan Khalil, who extended an invitation to him on behalf of the "Amal Movement" to participate in the "Central Mass Rally" marking the 45th anniversary of the disappearance of Imam Sadr and his companions, which will be held on the 31st of this month in Beirut.
