The U.S. Central Command stated on Wednesday that ISIS is attempting to "reconstitute itself," and the number of its attacks in Syria and Iraq is on track to double compared to last year. The Central Command announced in a statement that ISIS carried out 153 attacks in both countries during the first six months of 2024. According to a U.S. defense official, who spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly, the group was responsible for 121 attacks in Syria and Iraq during 2023. The Central Command clarified that the increase in attacks suggests that ISIS is trying to restructure itself after several years of diminished capabilities.
