Minister of Economy Calls from Washington for Continued International Support for Lebanon

During his visit to Washington, Minister of Economy and Trade in the caretaker government, Amin Salam, emphasized the "necessity of continued international support for Lebanon during this critical period." He noted that "despite all the challenges, Lebanon has proven its ability to endure, driven by the desire of its people to rise again, which represents a Middle Eastern model that deserves life and support." He stressed the "importance of the upcoming visit of the International Monetary Fund team to Lebanon at the beginning of next week, which is dedicated to holding a series of crucial meetings and discussing the necessary steps before the end of the current year, which will have significant implications on all levels with the fund, donor countries, and the international community." The attendees underscored the "urgent necessity for Lebanon to implement the reforms outlined in the staff-level agreement reached in April 2022 with the International Monetary Fund as soon as possible, as delays are not in Lebanon's interest, especially given that international conditions are witnessing economic setbacks, disasters, and the spread of epidemics, which gradually diminishes Lebanon's opportunity to secure an agreement with the fund and support from the international community."
