The head of the Arab International Commission for Reconstruction in Palestine, Zahir Al-Amri, after meeting with the Speaker of the House Nabih Berri in Ain el-Tineh, indicated that Berri "really made us feel that we are one people. As a Commission, we represent more than 16 Arab countries regarding the union and civil efforts, and we are not official representatives; we are civil entities. We truly felt that we are one people in facing the Zionist enemy." Al-Amri said, "The president also made us feel that Lebanon, as we have known it over all the years and decades past, is with Palestine, and with the Palestinian people until liberation, God willing. We, as the Arab International Commission for Reconstruction in Palestine, are working to rebuild what the Israeli occupation destroys in the Gaza Strip, in Jerusalem, or in the West Bank. Our Commission represents about 31 nationalities from all Arab, European, and Islamic countries."
He added, "We were honored to visit Lebanon and the Lebanese labor union, as well as the Pharmacists' Union, and there are other meetings, God willing, that we will conduct to partner with us. We found partners from all civil organizations during our visits to Arab and European countries, and this was crowned today with the visit to President Berri." He concluded by saying, "We thank God Almighty for allowing us this work in serving our people in Palestine, our people who need every effort and support to face the ongoing Zionist aggression in Palestine. My colleagues on the board who joined me in the visit from all Arab countries, and also with us from Lebanon, the head of the office, Mr. Munir Sinjaba, and our board of trustees in Lebanon are working hard to provide support to our people in Palestine. In conclusion, I thank Lebanon, both government and people, for their continuous and ongoing support for our people in Palestine."
President Berri also received the Chairman of Middle East Airlines, Muhammad Al-Hout. In the afternoon, the Speaker welcomed the Chairman of the Lebanon Tobacco and Tobacco Monopoly (Regie), Director-General Nasif Souklawi, and board members. Souklawi presented to President Berri a report on Regie's work programs, in addition to the dates for the collection of tobacco crops from farmers, starting on October 11.
