Minister of Education and Higher Education in the caretaker government, Abbas al-Halabi, called on the educational community in all its components to prepare for the new school year and to close the chapter of forced disruptions caused by harsh circumstances that affected the previous academic year, especially on members of the educational staff, who made tremendous efforts and sacrifices to save the school year and successfully completed the official exams.
He confirmed in a statement that they succeeded in allocating financial provisions from the Lebanese treasury for all teachers and professors in general education, vocational and technical education, the Lebanese University, and all workers in the ministry, as well as the Center for Educational Research and Development.
Based on this and all that has been achieved for teachers, instructors, and contractors in all their designations, he urged them all to turn a new page and put aside their disputes, particularly as the need to improve living and social conditions is a common goal. He indicated that the current circumstances require everyone to forget differences regarding any issue and to focus on saving the educational sector and the official school from collapse, always looking towards what can be achieved for future generations, without retracting any rightful demand and maintaining dignity, even at the minimum acceptable levels until general conditions in the country improve.
He added: "Based on all of this, and feeling the low levels of salaries, and in response to the many inquiries we have received, and to show the goodwill that the Ministry of Education holds towards all teachers and instructors, and to ensure a peaceful start to the academic year, we announce the suspension of the salary cuts decisions made previously and the decisions currently referred to us, hoping that this measure will serve as a new impetus for all educational staff to ensure a successful academic year."
