Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi warned of a serious turning point in the Middle East during his meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. The official spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency stated that "the Turkish Foreign Minister conveyed the greetings and appreciation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to El-Sisi," something that the Egyptian president valued, praising the results of President Erdoğan's visit to Egypt last February, which established a positive start in the relationship between the two countries.
In this context, the overall bilateral relations between the countries were reviewed, and there was a confirmation of the aspiration to hold the first meeting of the high-level strategic council between Egypt and Turkey, representing a leap in the path of bilateral cooperation based on mutual respect and shared interests, reflecting the historical relations between the two peoples, and enhancing coordination and consultation between the two countries to achieve security and stability in the region.
The official spokesperson mentioned that the meeting focused on the developments in the regional situation and warnings of a serious escalation in the area, with the president affirming that the Middle East is going through a highly delicate and dangerous turning point, necessitating the highest degrees of self-restraint and an elevation of the voice of reason and wisdom. He emphasized that the way to diffuse the rising tensions lies in the concerted efforts of active forces and the international community to implement an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and to provide an opportunity for political and diplomatic solutions. He pointed out Egypt's repeated warnings about the dangers of the war's expansion, which threatens regional and international peace and security, as well as the capabilities, safety, and stability of the peoples in the region.
