Exclusion of Referees Responsible for Liverpool's Disallowed Goal in the Next Round

Exclusion of Referees Responsible for Liverpool's Disallowed Goal in the Next Round

The referees responsible for the error that denied Liverpool a legitimate goal in their 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur last Saturday in the English Premier League will not officiate any matches in the next round of the competition early next week. The referees’ committee acknowledged the validity of Luis Diaz's goal and the mistake made by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) officials in failing to award the goal to Liverpool.

On the past Sunday, the referees’ committee announced the exclusion of officials Darren England and Dan Cook from officiating matches on the following Sunday and Monday due to the controversy surrounding the disallowed goal, and neither of their names appeared on the list of officials for the upcoming round.

Liverpool issued a statement on Sunday, stating it was clear that the rules of the game were not applied correctly, undermining sporting integrity. They added that they will explore available options to address the issue. Simon Hooper has been appointed as the main referee for Liverpool's match, with fourth official Michael Oliver participating in officiating the upcoming matches.
