The Qatari Pavilion at Expo 2023 Doha for horticulture witnessed a strong turnout on the first day of the six-month exhibition, allowing visitors to explore the latest and greatest Qatari innovations in agriculture and environmental protection. Visitors expressed their admiration for the pavilion's design, inspired by Ras Burq, which uniquely blends Qatari heritage with modern design.
The Qatari Pavilion is divided into five areas that take visitors on a journey of hope, growth, and innovation in combating desertification, climate change, and cultivating a green future, enriching their learning and awareness experience with fascinating information.
Visitors start their journey in the first area, the Environmental Awareness sector, which represents the small seed that sprouts amid global crises, primarily desertification, climate change, and fluctuations in water levels leading to flooding. Here, visitors discover the gravity of these challenges through three video clips; the first outlines climate change problems and their impact globally, the second illustrates how climate change affects Qatar and its soil, and the third discusses how Qatar addresses climate change challenges through technology and modern innovations.
As visitors continue their linked journey, they arrive at the second area focusing on Sustainability, where the seed grows through the biodiversity showcased in the display. This area features another set of videos about sustainability areas in Qatar, such as Msheireb, West Bay, and Bin Ghanam Island, including a 3D room that depicts the potential of these areas, as well as clips showing Qatar's past and hypothetical visuals of Qatar's future after the implementation of several sustainability-enhancing projects.
The third area presents the transition phases to address desertification and achieve a green future, showcasing the turning point towards a green Qatar through videos about food security and the challenges Qatar faced and how researchers overcame them, transforming Qatar into a green city. This area also exhibits videos highlighting the role of the Ministry of Municipality in addressing desertification challenges and innovative solutions.
The fourth area represents Modern Agriculture, where the seed flourishes through modern agricultural methods. This area highlights smart farming techniques for producing plants and trees. Visitors conclude their journey in the fifth area dedicated to Technology and Innovation, where they learn about all the eco-friendly technologies and new innovations utilized in Qatar, including clean energy sources such as solar and wind energy, alongside the Qatari garden displaying all types of plants and trees grown in Qatar.
It is noteworthy that Ras Burq, from which the Qatari Pavilion's design is inspired, is a peninsula located on the western coast of Qatar, housing remnants of human settlement dating back to prehistoric times. This area was once home to semi-nomadic tribes and has yielded numerous archaeological sites from prehistoric eras, showcasing tools made of stone used in hunting, enabling researchers to learn about this period in Qatar's history.
