King Abdullah II of Jordan emphasized during a meeting with a delegation of congressional aides at Al-Husseiniya Palace the necessity of exerting maximum efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region and reach a comprehensive ceasefire to avoid slipping into regional war. He pointed out that the region remains vulnerable to the expansion of conflict threatening its stability as long as the war in Gaza continues. This necessitates intensified international efforts to stop the war by achieving an immediate and permanent ceasefire. He reiterated that Jordan will not be a battlefield and will not allow its people's lives to be jeopardized.
The Jordanian king warned about the danger of extremist settlers' attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank, as well as violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. He stressed the need to find a political horizon to achieve just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution as the only way to ensure the security of Palestinians, Israelis, and the entire region.
He also highlighted the importance of continuing support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to enable it to carry out its humanitarian tasks for millions of Palestinians in Gaza and the region, within its UN mandate.
The Jordanian Royal Court noted that opportunities for cooperation between Jordan and the United States were discussed, with the king expressing gratitude for the continued support the United States provides to Jordan. The delegation members also expressed their appreciation for Jordan's pivotal role in striving for peace and stability in the region.
