Morocco ranked first at the 31st African Mathematics Olympiad held at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. 27 countries participated in the competition, with each country represented by a team of 6 competitors (3 females and 3 males). The Moroccan Ministry of Education indicated that its team managed to score 201 points, following deliberations by the organizing scientific committee, noting that this score is a "record that no country has achieved in the history of the African Olympiad." The second place was taken by the Algerian team with 186 points, while the Tunisian team came in third with 133 points. The ministry's statement added that the Moroccan competitors won 3 gold medals and 3 silver medals distributed among the team members. Additionally, the three female competitors in the team earned gold medals in a special category for girls called "PAMO Girls."
