British Foreign Secretary: Israel and Lebanon on the Brink of War

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy discussed regional developments in a phone call with Iranian Foreign Ministry official Ali Bagheri. The Tasnim News Agency reported that Bagheri pointed to the aggressive and terrorist actions carried out by the Israeli entity in the region, including the assault on Lebanon and the attack on residential homes in Beirut, followed hours later by violations of Iran's sovereignty and the martyrdom of Iran's official guest, martyr Haniyeh, which are the latest examples of this and the sole factor for instability in the region.

Bagheri noted that "after the crime of martyring Ismail Haniyeh committed by the Israeli entity and violating Iranian national security and regional stability, European parties squandered the first opportunity for diplomacy by their inaction and even failure to condemn this act, which violates international peace and security." He emphasized that "the obstruction of the diplomatic path by the Europeans will yield no result except to encourage the Israeli entity to continue its terrorist activities and enhance instability and insecurity in the region." He assured that "no state, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, will tolerate any threats to its national security, territorial integrity, or national sovereignty." He mentioned that "the US and many European countries in the Security Council, which hindered the responsibilities of the UN Security Council in confronting the causes of instability and insecurity in the region, are responsible for the sole evil entity in the region."

For his part, David Lammy urged Iran to "exercise restraint," stating, "The action against Ismail Haniyeh is a step backwards in the path to a ceasefire in Gaza." The British Foreign Secretary added, "Israel and Lebanon are on the brink of war, and if we do not exercise restraint, we will see catastrophic outcomes that benefit no one."
