Geagea: We Will Not Allow War to Reach Lebanon and the Government Must Implement Resolution 1701

The President of the Lebanese Forces Party, Samir Geagea, confirmed that war should not reach Lebanon as it would destroy the country, stressing the need to do everything possible to prevent it. He stated, "Should we kill ourselves for the party? The Lebanese government must implement Resolution 1701." In an interview with LBCI, Geagea remarked that the Palestinian issue is not just talk, emphasizing that it revolves around restoring the rights of the Palestinian people. He questioned, "Does the Palestinian experience a victory on October 7? Strength is not only met with another strength but with a strength that brings results. What has the Palestinian gained today from the war except facing poverty and death?"

Geagea expressed that "Hamas has inadvertently saved Israel," as the events of October 7 led to international sympathy for "Israel." He asked, "What has the resistance axis done for the Palestinian cause over the past 80 years?" Geagea considered that "the decision for war and peace is kidnapped by 'the Party' and Iran," pointing out that "no one is more knowledgeable about the Palestinian cause than Yasser Arafat, who reached the conclusion that one must take 'the other road.'"

He stated, "Mahmoud Abbas is the most esteemed leader in the world to me, and I care about the Palestinian issue more than many who exploit it. The biggest threat to Israel comes from Palestinians inside." Geagea called for a tangible solution regarding the Palestinian cause and expressed full solidarity with the people of Gaza while opposing Hamas outright.

Geagea reminded that "Israel took the Shebaa Farms from Syria and then decided to implement Resolution 425, at which point the Shebaa Farms were annexed to Lebanon." He mentioned, "We can liberate it through an agreement between the Lebanese and Syrian governments stating that the Shebaa Farms are Lebanese and presenting it to the Security Council." He pointed out that "Bashar Assad claims that the Shebaa Farms are Syrian, while his allies in Lebanon consider them Lebanese."

He added, "They do not want to hear about or retrieve the Shebaa Farms to achieve their regional project goals at the expense of the Lebanese and the people of the south." In response to a question, Geagea stated, "They accuse us of treason, but the traitors who have been proven to be spies for Israel came from various sects, and there is not a single member from the Lebanese Forces among them."

The Lebanese Forces Party leader emphasized that "war should not occur, and if we are drawn into conflict, Hezbollah will have committed a major crime." He remarked, "Our humanitarian stance towards Shia citizens is one thing, and our political stance towards the party is entirely different." Geagea urged Mikati to "apologize to the Arab states for what was said by Wiam Wahhab, affirming that his statements are unacceptable and only represent the resistance axis; he does not speak on behalf of the Lebanese, as the Arabs assisted Lebanon 'for the sake of their morals' and their love."
