On Saturday, the Hebrew newspaper "Haaretz" published an analytical article highlighting that the war is taking a serious new turn following Israel's bombing of the Yemeni port of Hodeidah. The article stated: "After nine and a half months, the war between Israel and Hamas has entered a new and more dangerous phase. A drone launched by the Houthis from Yemen struck Tel Aviv and killed an Israeli. Less than 24 hours later, Israeli Air Force planes bombed arms depots, a power plant, and oil storage facilities in the Yemeni port of Hodeidah, causing significant damage."
"Haaretz" added that this is the first time Israel has struck Yemen, having previously left the military response to the attacks by the Houthis to the United States and the coalition. The newspaper noted that the strike, located about 1,700 kilometers from Israel, sends a message about the long-range military capabilities of the Israeli air force to the entire region, particularly to Iran. However, it is also expected to lead to revenge attempts by the Houthis against Israeli targets, potentially escalating these clashes into a more intense multi-front war.
The article clarified that the launch of the drone from Yemen on Friday was surprising, as there was no prior intelligence warning and the defense system also appeared to be limited.
