Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated that there is "an obsessed individual trying to ignite fires in the government, attempting to inflame the Middle East," referring clearly to National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and his extremist views. Gallant also wrote on the platform "X" on Wednesday: "I oppose any negotiations to include him in the war council, as this would allow him to implement his plans." It was reported that Netanyahu is in talks to include Ben Gvir in a new war council, but the Israeli channel "Kan" previously mentioned that he decided against this move to avoid embarrassment during his visit to the United States, according to the Times of Israel.
The War Council's Dissolution
It is noted that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dissolved the war council on June 17. An Israeli official told CNN at the time that "the security cabinet will continue to make decisions regarding war matters," clarifying that "Netanyahu will hold smaller meetings about sensitive issues." It remains unclear specifically with whom Netanyahu will consult regarding war matters in Gaza.
Netanyahu's decision came after Benny Gantz announced his withdrawal from the war council on June 9, while Ben Gvir requested to join the war council. The war council was formed five days after the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. It included not only Netanyahu and Gantz but also Gallant. Other politicians, such as Gadi Eisenkot and Ron Dermer, also participated as observers in the war council.
