Qatar: We are Ready to Provide 3 Renewable Energy Plants to Lebanon

During his visit to Doha, the Minister of Economy in the caretaker government, Amin Salam, met with the Qatari Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Saad bin Sherida Al-Kaabi, who confirmed "Doha's readiness to provide 3 renewable energy plants to the Lebanese side in partnership with the French company Total." Salam discussed with Al-Kaabi "the crisis of high energy costs (among the highest globally), which is considered the main reason for the increase in the prices of services and goods by about 50 percent, as it poses a significant barrier to production costs for plants and operational expenses for institutions and companies."

Since Doha has never hesitated to help Lebanon and provide solutions, the Qatari minister offered "his country's readiness to take responsibility for building 3 renewable energy plants, in partnership with the French energy giant Total, as a rescue step for the national economy and the country." He confirmed that this "grant has favorable conditions and is limited to the Lebanese side providing the necessary land for the implementation of this project, with Lebanese authorities choosing the sites based on priorities and needs."

The Qatari side indicated that "the production capacity cost of the three plants would be around 500 megawatts, which is about 25 to 30% of Lebanon's current energy needs (approximately 2500 megawatts), if we exclude the alternative energy sources (solar energy) owned by the Lebanese, estimated at around 1000 megawatts."
