Indian Minister of State for Nuclear and Space Industries Jitendra Singh announced that his country, in collaboration with the United States, will launch a satellite to study the Earth. Following a meeting in New Delhi with the head of NASA, the minister stated: "In early 2024, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) will launch a joint satellite for Earth observation and remote sensing using microwave technology, which will be named NASA-ISRO Radar Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR). This satellite is expected to be launched in the first quarter of next year." Work on the mentioned satellite project began in 2016, and it has been equipped with S-band units, designed to monitor earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides, glacier melting, tsunamis, and large-scale ecosystem disturbances.
