Voting Process for Egyptians Abroad Begins in Presidential Elections

The voting process for Egyptians abroad in the 2024 presidential elections has commenced, with polling taking place in 137 Egyptian embassies and consulates worldwide, continuing for three days. Four candidates are competing in the election: the current president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Dr. Abdel-Sand Yamama, head of the Wafd Party, Fird Zahran, head of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party, and Hazem Omar, head of the Republican People's Party.

Ambassador Suha Gendy, Minister of State for Migration and Egyptian Affairs Abroad, announced that an operations room has been established at the ministry to monitor the elections for Egyptians abroad and respond to all inquiries and questions from voters around the clock, in coordination with the National Elections Authority.

She added that the elections will continue over the three days from 9 AM to 9 PM local time in each country. The National Elections Authority has established regulations for voting for Egyptians abroad, stipulating that voters must present a valid Egyptian passport or a national ID card, whether valid or expired, and that they must be registered in the voter database.

It is noteworthy that Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry tasked Egyptian embassies and consulates with taking all necessary measures and providing the necessary equipment and modern tools to support and facilitate the electoral process, in addition to creating a suitable environment for voters to cast their votes easily. Measures will also ensure accessibility for citizens with disabilities, the elderly, and women, providing suitable places for receiving and waiting for citizens, equipped appropriately to guarantee their comfort.

Voting for Egyptians inside the country is scheduled to begin on December 10 and will also continue for three days, with results set to be announced on December 18, assuming the elections are settled in the first round. Should a runoff be necessary, elections for Egyptians abroad will be conducted on January 5, 6, and 7, 2024, while voting for Egyptians inside the country will take place on January 8, 9, and 10, with results to be announced on January 16.
