Baqeri Kani: We Are Committed to Our Legitimate Right to Respond to the Assassination of Haniyeh

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Baqeri Kani announced Iran's commitment to its legitimate right to respond to the assassination of Hamas Politburo Chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. Baqeri Kani stated in a phone call with his Italian counterpart that "Iran continues its efforts to stop the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip." This comes a day after a quintet statement (the United States, Germany, Britain, France, and Italy) issued by the White House, which supported a call from the U.S., Qatar, and Egypt to resume ceasefire talks in Gaza to reach an agreement as soon as possible. The leaders also called for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, while challenging negotiations are expected to take place on Thursday aimed at ending the conflict. In response, the Iranian Foreign Ministry emphasized that "Tehran does not seek permission from anyone to exercise its recognized rights," asserting its determination to defend its sovereignty and national security.
