U.S. President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have signed a 10-year security agreement aimed at strengthening Ukraine's defenses. President Zelensky stated, "The agreement clearly stipulates that America supports Ukraine's efforts to achieve victory in the war with Russia." He added, "The agreement includes provisions related to advanced defense systems such as Patriot missiles and fleets of fighter jets, including F-16s."
Here are the main provisions of the U.S.-Ukrainian agreement:
1. In the event of an armed attack or the threat of such an attack from Russia against Ukraine, senior officials from the United States and Ukraine will meet within 24 hours to discuss the response and determine additional defense needs for Ukraine.
2. The United States also intends, according to the signed document, to provide long-term material support to Ukraine.
3. Training, consulting, sustainability, intelligence, security, and institutional defense support, along with other types of assistance will be provided to develop Ukrainian security and defense forces capable of defending sovereign, independent, and democratic Ukraine and deterring any future aggression.
Two weeks prior, the Biden administration had secretly granted Ukraine permission to strike inside Russia using U.S. weapons, marking a new development in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, as reported by Politico. According to the report, the U.S. government succumbed to Ukrainian pressures and gave the "green light" to the Ukrainian military to use U.S. weapons to target areas inside Russia, near the Kharkiv region, according to an American official and two other informed sources.
