Arrest of Two Syrians for Stealing a Car from Haret Sakhr

The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division announced that as part of the efforts of the Internal Security Forces to combat car thefts, a patrol from the Beirut Police Information Unit suspected a silver "Kia Rio" vehicle at 6:00 am on June 13, 2024, which was carrying two individuals: A. M. (born in 1999, Syrian) and L. A. (born in 2004, Syrian).

The statement added that upon investigation, it became clear that the vehicle was stolen from Jounieh - Haret Sakhr at 5:30 am on the same date. During questioning, they admitted to stealing the car by starting it without a key. It was also discovered that they had entered the country illegally and were involved in drug use. The car was returned to its owner, and legal measures were taken against them. They were referred to the competent authorities based on the judiciary's directive.

The Directorate urged car owners to remain vigilant continuously to reduce the risk of their vehicles being stolen. They recommended implementing certain protective measures, the most important of which include: professionally installing devices that are difficult for thieves to access, such as an IMMOBILIZER, GPS, or MINI GPS devices, a secret key to prevent starting the vehicle, or using a steering lock. It is preferable to park vehicles in secure locations or in well-lit areas equipped with surveillance cameras if possible.
