After a series of incidents that occurred in different regions of Lebanon, the latest being in Falougha and Chouf, several displaced individuals from the border town of Aita al-Chaab were attacked by party members in the town of Tora in the Tyre district. It was reported that some residents of Aita al-Chaab sought refuge in Tora to rent safe homes, leading to a dispute between a renting displaced family and a party official in Tora. This escalated into an assault on the displaced person Kamel Sarour, who was severely beaten, prompting other displaced individuals to gather and defend him, resulting in a confrontation.
In response to the incident, the Mayor of Aita al-Chaab, Mohamed Khalil Sarour, issued a statement expressing condemnation: "The proud Aita al-Chaab represents honor and dignity and stands at the forefront to be recorded on the first page of history books. Every day continues the giving and steadfastness, and the blood of our martyrs bears witness. I must condemn the aggression against the residents of my town living in Tora by some locals. I remind them that in our town we reside in homes, own livelihoods, and are not barefoot. Enough with the violence towards our honorable people. I extend my sincere thanks to municipalities, institutions, and locals for their warm embrace of them. Hopefully, we will return to our villages crowned with victory."
It is noted that the mayor was requested not to circulate the statement, but he refused.
