The Israeli army announced that it "found today, Friday, UAVs and a combat complex belonging to Hamas, along with a war room" inside the main headquarters of UNRWA in Gaza City. The Israeli army stated in a statement that "following intelligence indicating the presence of Hamas and Islamic Jihad elements within the UNRWA headquarters in Gaza City, Israeli forces began operations in the area earlier this week," noting that "at the start of the operation, a designated corridor was opened to allow civilians to evacuate the area."
The statement continued, "During the operation, a team from the combat commando brigade under Division 99 targeted a Hamas combat complex located within a compound previously used by UNRWA. Under the direction of the intelligence department (J2), special forces from Maglan and Egoz raided the complex and arrested terrorists attempting to escape the area."
The statement added: "During the operation, the forces engaged in close combat with terrorist cells fortified inside the UNRWA complex and discovered drone assembly parts, war rooms used for surveillance operations, and large quantities of weapons, including tactical drones, rockets, machine guns, mortars, explosives, and grenades."
The Israeli army noted in its statement that it uncovered and destroyed a tunnel and military intelligence assets belonging to Hamas beneath the building that served as the main headquarters for UNRWA in the Gaza Strip. During additional scans in the area, an underground facility for manufacturing explosives and weapons was also found.
