This is part of a series of assassinations conducted by Israel in recent hours. Earlier today, the Islamic Jihad Movement announced the assassination of Haniyeh in an Israeli airstrike that targeted his residence in Tehran while he was attending the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian president, Masoud Bezhkishan. The official Palestinian news agency (Wafa) issued a statement saying that the President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, announced a day of mourning and lowered flags for one day in honor of the assassinated former Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh.
