The Global Government Summit 2024 commenced today, Monday, under the theme "Envisioning Future Governments," continuing until February 14 in Dubai, with the participation of more than 25 heads of state and government. This new edition of the summit aims to explore future opportunities and challenges, highlighting the pressing issues the world faces, as well as discussing ways to reach common visions to enhance governmental work and strengthen cooperation among the world's governments, exchanging experiences and focusing on inspiring stories and models in governmental work that have left positive impacts and created real change in their countries and communities.
The summit brings together 120 governmental delegations, over 85 international and regional organizations, and global institutions, in addition to a group of thought leaders and global experts, with more than 4,000 participants in attendance. The 2024 edition of the Global Government Summit features six main themes and 15 global forums, discussing major global trends and shifts across more than 110 main dialogue and interactive sessions, involving 200 global figures from presidents, ministers, experts, thinkers, and future-makers. Additionally, over 23 ministerial meetings and executive sessions will take place, with the presence of over 300 ministers.
The current edition of the Global Government Summit marks a qualitative addition to its agenda, featuring a distinguished group of Nobel Prize-winning scientists in various scientific disciplines, reinforcing its position as a global platform for intellectuals, decision-makers, and all influencers, in line with its mission to focus on innovative solutions to face global challenges and improve the lives of communities and human civilization. The summit will launch 25 strategic reports in collaboration with knowledge partners from think tanks and academic and research institutions to study global trends in various sectors and present actionable government strategies.
The Global Government Summit hosts meaningful global discussions and dialogues to explore the formation of future governments, including roundtable meetings that gather world leaders, government officials, international organizations, thought leaders, and the private sector to enhance international cooperation and identify innovative solutions to future challenges, anticipating key opportunities, and inspiring the next generation of governments. High-level ministerial meetings will also take place, including a meeting for ministers concerned with sustainable development, a ministerial meeting to discuss the features of the next generation of future governments, a meeting of Arab finance ministers, a consultative meeting with labor ministers from Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and a meeting of energy ministers to discuss the future of hydrogen energy.
This current edition of the Global Government Summit offers several global awards in recognition of government ministers, private sector representatives, innovators, and creators for their exceptional contributions to building a better society for humanity. Among these awards are the Best Minister in the World Award, the Dubai International Award for Best Practices in Sustainable Development, the Creative Government Innovations Award, the Global Award for Best Government Applications, and the Global Government Excellence Award.
As part of its activities, the Global Government Summit will launch a global survey of ministers, inviting world ministers to contribute their ideas on critical global issues and participate in promoting collaborative solutions. The summit will witness the attendance of several heads of states, including Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Turkey, who will participate in a session entitled "Dialogue with the Honored Guest, the President of Turkey." Additionally, Paul Kagame, the President of Rwanda, will speak during a main session on the first day of the summit.
Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairwoman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, will participate in a session titled "A New Government Vision for Creativity," taking place on the first day of the summit. The summit will also feature the participation of several heads of governments, including Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, who will speak during a main session as the distinguished guest of the summit. Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister of Egypt, will deliver a keynote address during the first day, alongside participation from Mohammad Shia' al-Sudani, Prime Minister of Iraq, Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister of Cuba, and Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, in prominent sessions at the event.
The first day of the Global Government Summit began with an opening speech by Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and President of the Global Government Summit. Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Culture, and Dasty Jenkins, CEO of Government Affairs at Spotify, will participate in a session titled "The Future of Creative Industries... How Can Governments Nurture Talent?" on the first day of the summit.
Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, will engage in a dialogue with Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, during a session titled "Who Will Lead the Future of Artificial Intelligence?"
The first day of the Global Government Summit will feature several sessions exploring future trends in the sectors most connected to human life, including a session discussing "Building Civilizations of Tomorrow... Are They Sustainable?" with Professor Klaus Schwab, founder and President of the World Economic Forum, and a session titled "Aviation and the Emission Dilemma... Is There a Balance in Sight?" featuring Juan Carlos Salazar, Secretary General of ICAO, Guillaume Faury, CEO of Airbus, and Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airlines, alongside a keynote speech by Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization.
Other sessions on the first day will discuss "How Will Artificial Intelligence Shape the Global Economic Landscape?" with participation from Ping Xiao, CEO of Group 42, and a session on "Investment and Future Returns... In a Volatile World" featuring George Walker, CEO of Neuberger Berman. A session titled "Where Will We See the Best Economic Growth in the World?" will include Dr. Sidi Ould Nam, Director General of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa, Dr. Abdulhamid Khalifa, Director General of OPEC Fund, Dr. Heike Harmgart, Managing Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and Dr. Samir Saran, President of the Observer Research Foundation.
A set of sessions discussing the digital future will include Shone Edwards, CTO of Bloomberg, in a session titled "Are Governments Ready for the Digital Future?" and Florian Tursky, Austria's Minister for Digital Transformation, alongside Masoud Mohamed Sharif Mahmoud, CEO of Etisalat from &e, in a session titled "Government Race... Balancing Legislation and Technological Advancement."
In a session titled "How Do Governments Balance Societal Prosperity with Fear of Technology?" Honorable Giedre Balcytiete, Advisor to the Government of Lithuania, Mike Cecere, COO of Oracle, and George Lee, Head of Applied Innovation and Member of the Management Committee at Goldman Sachs, will respond to this question.
The day will feature sessions focused on governance and algorithms, including "How Can We Empower Human Genius in an Algorithmic World?" with Ignacio Garcia Alves, CEO of Arthur D. Little. Another session titled "How Do Governments Embrace Innovative Living Approaches?" will feature setbacks from companies like Survios and feature speakers such as Lauren Seelig, Partner at Shake and Bake Productions.
In a session titled "How Do Governments Harness Technological Advancement to Serve Communities?" Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology in Egypt, Professor Mostafa Sisseh, African Institute of Science and Mathematics, and Engineer Majid Sultan Al-Masmar, Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority will share insights.
A session entitled "The Future of the Banking Sector... From Gold to Data" will feature Bill Winters, CEO of Standard Chartered, and Bernard Mensah, President of Bank of America. In a dialogue with the President of the World Bank, Ajay Banga, CEO of the Group, will be addressing "How Do We Maximize the Impact of Our Development Efforts?" with Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, participating in a panel discussion.
A session titled "Can Artificial Intelligence Replace Humans?" will feature Jonathan Ross, CEO and founder of Groq, while another session on "Lessons in Innovation... From the Private Sector to Governments" will involve Eliso Polkvadze, a global pianist, artist, and UNESCO Peace Ambassador, along with Sirifkan Ozkan, CEO of Innovation at Nike.
Eugene Kaspersky, CEO of Kaspersky, will speak on "How Do We Set the Ethical Compass for Artificial Intelligence?" and a discussion on "Data Privacy... Are We Safe?" will include remarks from Marc Rotenberg, President and Founder of the Center for AI and Digital Policy.
On the topic of the partnership between government and citizens in decision-making, there will be a session with Senator Kevin Thomas from New York and John Clifton, CEO of Gallup. Hiro Mizuno, a sustainability expert and board member of Harley Davidson, will address "How Do We Activate Partnerships Towards Sustainable Investments?"
During a session examining "Government Foresight... How Do We Harmonize Policies with the Future?" Teri Rismarin, Minister of Social Affairs in Indonesia, and Nick Studer, CEO of Oliver Wyman, will offer insights. In a third session, Maurice Levy, Chairman of Publicis Group, will address how nations design their identity in the era of artificial intelligence, while other speakers, including Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, CEO of Mubadala Investment Company, Stephen Pagliuca, owner of Bain Capital and the Boston Celtics, and Ross Perot Jr., Chairman of Perot Group, will discuss who will shape the future investment paths.
Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the OECD, will speak in a session titled "Keeping Up with Economic Changes... A Global Perspective on a Renewed Future," while in another session, American journalist and critic Tucker Carlson will share his vision for the future of storytelling.
