The Government Communication and Media Department in Al-Anbar Province announced today, Monday, the completion of the first phase of Al-Anbar International Airport, detailing the work involved. In a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the director of the department, Basim Al-Anbari, said, "The first phase of the Al-Anbar International Airport project involves preparing the airport site and securing it, including the construction of a concrete security fence around the airport, along with a barbed wire fence and a 17-kilometer internal ring road."
He continued, "The work also included the construction of 32 guard towers along the airport perimeter, as well as a concrete service channel that contains electric power cable holders and low-voltage cables, which is also 17 kilometers long," confirming that "the first phase has been completed at 100%."
Al-Anbari added that "the second phase involves the construction of the airport's airfield, which includes building the main runway, secondary runway, rapid exits, and parking areas for passenger and cargo planes, in addition to infrastructure and rainwater drainage projects." He noted that "this phase is crucial as it directly serves air traffic."
He mentioned that "the total area of the airport is approximately 6,000 dunams, which will provide job opportunities for at least 500 people in various specialties, and this number will increase with the future expansion of the airport according to the plan." He highlighted that "a modern design has been adopted for the passenger terminal, and traditional water wheels have been included inside the passenger hall, which will add a heritage element reflecting an important part of the province's history."
