Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and President Putin's Special Envoy for the Middle East and Africa, Mikhail Bogdanov, stated that "relations between Russia and Lebanon are progressing and are based on a strong historical foundation built on mutual respect. We have political, economic, commercial, tourism, and religious cooperation." He expressed regret, in a conversation with Sputnik news agency on the sidelines of the event commemorating the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Lebanon in Moscow, about the strikes "that Lebanon is undergoing and we call on everyone to show restraint, cease hostilities, prevent escalation, and agree on sound and just principles because only justice can build peace."
