The media office of the Lebanese Prime Minister's office indicated that "one media outlet published a report concerning the letter sent by Prime Minister Najib Mikati to the President of the Central Inspection Authority, requesting an immediate investigation into the complete interruption of electricity supply. The report also discussed the Court of Accounts in relation to one of its decisions." The media office clarified in a statement that "the decision issued by the Court of Accounts did not include any approval to extend the contract referenced in the report, as this contract is not subject to prior oversight by the Court at all. In fact, an examination of the decision shows that it indicated the necessity of securing electricity from the administration, either based on the existing contract if it is still in effect or based on reconciliation due to the administration's delay in launching a new tender. The aim was to ensure electricity supply for citizens, in addition to providing resources for the treasury, which is in dire need of them under these circumstances, and thus maintain the operation of this essential public service." The statement continued: "The Prime Minister's office, out of a desire to preserve the independence and credibility of the judiciary, urges media outlets to exercise accuracy in conveying information and not to interfere with the judicial authorities that are keen on ensuring the continuity of public service operations within the framework of applicable laws and regulations."
