An Italian news report revealed today, Tuesday, that "Milan has successfully concluded a deal for one of the French national team players this summer." The Italian newspaper "La Gazzetta dello Sport" stated that "Milan has reached a nearly complete agreement with Monaco regarding the permanent transfer of midfielder Youssouf Fofana."
It added that "Gerry Cardinale, the head of RedBird Capital Partners, which owns Milan, arrived in the city in recent hours, and his presence was crucial for the Fofana deal after holding a meeting with the club’s directors and advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic."
The report continued: "The two clubs held negotiations to discuss the transfer yesterday and came very close to finalizing the deal, with new discussions scheduled for today as the goal is to complete the deal and sign contracts within 72 hours."
The newspaper noted that the clubs agreed on a fixed part of the transfer fee at approximately 14 million euros, while negotiations remain for the variable part and bonuses to be paid to the club.
It highlighted that the approaching expiration of Fofana's contract (summer 2025) has led Monaco to not negotiate too harshly on the price, along with the player's commitment to Milan and enthusiasm to play under coach Paulo Fonseca, which made the Rossoneri closer to signing him.
On another note, Fofana is set to sign a four-year contract, and his salary, which currently slightly exceeds one million euros, will increase to around three million euros, including bonuses.
