A U.S. official confirmed that National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will travel to Saudi Arabia this week to continue discussions with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman regarding a normalization agreement between Israel and the Kingdom. The official told CNN that Sullivan will depart on a trip today and does not expect significant breakthroughs in the meeting.
This visit comes less than two weeks after Secretary of State Antony Blinken's trip to Saudi Arabia, during which he indicated that there has been "good progress" in the ongoing talks to normalize Israeli-Saudi relations.
An American official mentioned to the same network that the "potential deal, which some see as having difficult challenges, will include several elements, such as a U.S. military agreement with Saudi Arabia that would support the Kingdom's development of a civilian nuclear program." The official clarified that "the details of this part of the deal, along with many other aspects, are still being worked out."
Axios reported that Jake Sullivan will visit Saudi Arabia where he will discuss with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman a "huge deal" that includes normalization with Israel and a defense treaty with the United States. Saudi Arabia previously confirmed that there would be no relations with Israel before ending its aggression, withdrawing from Gaza, and recognizing a Palestinian state, according to "Russia Today."
