The French embassy distributed the following statement: "Fifteen members of the Beirut Fire Brigade will attend several Olympic and Paralympic games, initiated by the French Ambassador to Lebanon, Hervé Magro. The members will travel to France in two batches: the first from July 30 to August 2, to attend men's basketball matches between Serbia and Puerto Rico, and between the United States and North Sudan, which will take place in Lille. The second batch will go from September 3 to 6 to attend the men's wheelchair basketball semifinals at the Paralympic Games in the capital, Paris." Ambassador Magro stated a few days before the fourth anniversary of the Beirut port explosion: "We wanted to express our appreciation for these members who paid a high price on August 4, 2020." The members of the fire brigade will be able to make this visit thanks to the efforts of the French embassy and the generous contributions from various entities, including companies MEA, Sanofi, CGM CMA, EDF, and the Municipality of Paris, with support from the Lebanon Office of Foreign Trade Advisors in France. This initiative is part of the French embassy's projects to showcase sports as a means of connection and effort, including sending 22 Lebanese youth volunteers to help organize the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
