The United Arab Emirates has pledged $100 million in support of humanitarian efforts in Sudan and its neighboring countries. During his participation in the international humanitarian conference on Sudan held in Paris, the Emirati Minister of State, Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, commended the ongoing efforts aimed at ending the crisis that has severely affected the Sudanese people and restoring the political path in Sudan. He emphasized the importance of intensifying international and regional efforts towards an immediate and lasting ceasefire, ensuring complete access to humanitarian aid.
The high-level meetings discussed initiatives seeking to establish peace in Sudan and ways to strengthen these efforts, leading to the adoption of a principles declaration to support the resolution of the ongoing conflict since April 2023, in addition to enhancing humanitarian and diplomatic efforts to address the humanitarian challenges facing the Sudanese people.
In the UAE's speech at the conference, Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to supporting international efforts for an immediate and lasting ceasefire, finding a peaceful solution to the crisis, and continuing to assist the Sudanese people, reiterating the pledge of $100 million for humanitarian efforts in Sudan and its neighboring countries.
He highlighted the UAE's efforts and concrete steps taken to alleviate the humanitarian conditions in Sudan and its neighbors, with a total value of relief aid directed to those affected by the conflict amounting to $150 million, which included medical, food, and relief supplies. Additionally, a fully equipped field hospital was established in the city of Abéché in the Republic of Chad, the second built by the UAE in support of Sudanese refugees, costing $20 million.
On the political side, bin Nahyan reiterated the UAE's position calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, and working towards a peaceful resolution of the crisis by returning to the political path, prioritizing wisdom and reason, and urging for intensified collective action and joint efforts to push towards ending the conflict and the crisis, thereby enhancing the security and stability of Sudan, saving lives, and meeting the aspirations of its people for development and prosperity.
