Is Lebanon Still Under the Umbrella of International Protection?

The southern front is witnessing a frantic race between escalation and de-escalation, with increasing advice from both brotherly and friendly countries to Lebanon regarding the need to respond to international efforts aimed at sparing Lebanon from a wide-ranging war, which could have dangerous repercussions for the entire region. A senior Lebanese official told "Al-Anbaa" about the importance of the visits that have been and will be made by several international officials to Lebanon, notably Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Secretary of State of the Vatican. The official highlighted that these visits, regardless of the content of the discussions, provide a positive push in affirming that Lebanon remains under the umbrella of international protection, amid the escalating Israeli tension expressed by Israeli leaders in both the political and military spheres, with escalating military threats and talk of potentially returning Lebanon to the Stone Age.

The Lebanese official revealed that this frantic race between an explosion of the situation on Lebanon's front and entering into a ceasefire places significant responsibilities on the international community, which is expected to restrain Israel and prevent it from pushing the region into a wide-ranging war. The focus is strongly on achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, which also impacts Lebanon. Information indicates that there are considerable and silent efforts being made to implement the UN Security Council resolution which adopted U.S. President Joe Biden's plan in its three phases, with the disagreement centering on a single point: Should the sustainable ceasefire be discussed in the first phase of the plan, as the Palestinian factions, particularly Hamas, desire? Or in the second phase, as Israel insists, preferring to postpone it to the third and final phase to later evade its commitments not to return to war? According to "Al-Anbaa" of Kuwait.
