Arrest of 3 German Citizens Suspected of Spying for China

The German public prosecutor's office reported the arrest of three citizens suspected of "spying for China," specifically in gathering information regarding dual-use technological innovations for the Chinese intelligence. In a statement from the public prosecutor's office, it was noted, "The accused are suspected of having worked for the Chinese intelligence from an unspecified date until June 2022. The individuals include a man and a family of two who were arrested on Monday." German authorities suspect that the mentioned family managed to obtain information about military and technological innovations. For this purpose, they formed a company that worked in the field of scientific exchange with the Chinese side, supported by Chinese intelligence, under a contract with a local university. The initial purpose of the espionage was to prepare a study for the Chinese partner regarding the operation of powerful marine engines used in warships.
