The Lebanese National Orthodox Council issued a statement calling out, "the cry is loud; the patience has worn thin with the owners of electric generators and the Ministry of Energy, partners in the chaos of cables that fill the streets and residential neighborhoods in Beirut and other areas." It warned of "the danger of fires arising from electrical friction due to the random installations of generator cables." The council held "the Ministry of Energy and its Minister fully responsible," questioning: "Citizens are now paying their bills in dollars, so where is the electricity?"
It pointed out "the negligence of the Beirut Municipal Council," asking its members: "Why don't you organize this matter properly and efficiently? Don't you see how the roads have become, with cables appearing as decorations during festive seasons?" The council urged "the members of parliament to investigate this matter and see how people live in these neighborhoods," calling for "this to be considered as a notification."
Regarding the issue of water, the council noted that "no one cares about its interruption for weeks or months in citizens' homes," holding the Minister of Energy and Water responsible for this, demanding a quick resolution and asking: "The annual subscription has reached 13 or 14 million, and water has not reached homes; what are the officials doing in return for these bills?"
It called for "this statement to be considered as a notification against the Ministry of Energy and Water," demanding a "clear explanation to identify who is responsible to stand before the competent judiciary." The council emphasized that "the security and health of the citizen are not political commodities," urging officials to "resign from their positions if they are unable to perform their duties."
