Hezbollah announced today, Saturday, that it has carried out a new operation against the settlement of Eilot Hashachar, stating that it "shelled it with volleys of Katyusha rockets." Hezbollah's statement indicated that this settlement has entered its targeting range as of today, announcing that this attack on the area is the first since the escalation of tensions on the Lebanon-Israel front that began on October 8th.
Eilot Hashachar is located northeast of the occupied city of Safed in the Upper Galilee and is about 10 kilometers from the Lebanese-Palestinian border. It is a Jewish settlement of the kibbutz type, established in Upper Galilee near Hasor HaGalilit in 1918, founded by a group from the second wave of Jewish immigration. The name is derived from the Arabic translation (Star of the Morning).
The population of this settlement is approximately 1,500 people, most of whom work in agriculture and livestock farming. The settlement also features a museum that collects artifacts discovered in the Canaanite city of Hasor. Recently, a project was initiated to rent out tourist rooms in the settlement, following the collapse of the agricultural sector in most kibbutz-type settlements.
