Egyptian athlete Mohamed Elsayed won the bronze medal in the "Epee" fencing competition at the "Paris 2024" Olympic Games on Sunday evening. Elsayed defeated Hungarian Tiber Andrasfi in the third-place match with a score of (8-7) through a golden touch after an additional round. Andrasfi excelled in the first two rounds, leading 3-2 and 4-3, before Elsayed managed to equalize 7-7 by the end of the third round. In the extra round, the Venezuelan referee reviewed the video three times to determine the match point before finally deciding in favor of the Egyptian player.
Elsayed had previously lost in the semifinals to French fencer Yannick Borel with a score of 9-15. Thus, Egypt secured its first medal at the Paris Olympics with Elsayed's bronze in fencing. This marks Egypt’s second Olympic medal in fencing, following Alaaeldin Abouelkassem's silver at the London 2012 Olympics. The Arab nations have now earned their second medal at the Paris Olympics, after Tunisian Faris Ferjani won silver in the sword fencing competition the previous day. It is noteworthy that Egyptian fencer Ziad El-Sisi was close to claiming the first medal on Saturday but finished in fourth place in the Olympic competitions.
