According to the agency, Haniyeh's assassination occurred around 2 AM, and he was staying at a special location for veterans in Tehran, where he was hit "by something flying in the air." The report clarified that Haniyeh and his accompanying delegation were residing in a guesthouse of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in northern Tehran. The agency mentioned that the Secretary-General of the Islamic Jihad Movement, Ziad Nakhalah, and his accompanying delegation were on another floor of the targeted building. Earlier, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard had announced the death of Haniyeh and a member of his protection team in Tehran after their residence was attacked, and Iranian authorities have opened an investigation into the circumstances of Haniyeh's assassination. For its part, Hamas confirmed Haniyeh's assassination by an Israeli airstrike on his residence in Tehran, which occurred the day after he participated in the swearing-in ceremony of President Masoud Bezhkian.
