Apple Unveils AI Enhancements in Its Products

Experts and observers expect Apple to seize the opportunity at its annual WWDC developer conference, starting Monday, to demonstrate how it is integrating generative artificial intelligence into its products. The company seeks to catch up in the increasing trend of employing smart tools in technology products and to compensate for its delay compared to major competitors who are advancing further in this field.

According to AppleInsider, the Mail app is set for a significant transformation, with upcoming improvements linked to Apple's new AI initiative. These upgrades are expected to be showcased for the first time in the new versions of Apple's operating systems at the scheduled conference. The major update includes advanced search capabilities in the Mail app, allowing users to search through emails, contacts, locations, and local documents.

The Project Blackpearl AI upgrades for Siri in the iOS 18 Mail app will utilize Apple's large on-device Ajax language model to enhance search results, including smart replies and customizable response tones via Siri. With AI improvements, Siri will have a better understanding of context, considering various aspects such as location and calendar events.

Mail, Messages, and Siri services will introduce a "smart reply" feature, providing instant responses generated by artificial intelligence. This means that customer service representatives and administrative assistants can streamline their communication tasks.

A new system-level writing tool framework is also anticipated, potentially enabling text editing through Siri as part of the initiative codenamed Project BlackPearl. This project aims to use machine learning to classify emails and identify urgent messages or certain types of senders.
