The political body of the "National Liberal Movement" issued a statement following its regular meeting chaired by MP Gibran Bassil, stating that "as the Israeli killing machine continues to claim Palestinian victims in Gaza and to destroy it, while attention is directed to the ongoing negotiations in Doha and Cairo to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, with some hoping that this will extend to Lebanon, the Movement reaffirms the need to do everything possible to keep war away from Lebanon and not to link it to regional wars that have dire consequences. If the Israeli enemy wishes to attack Lebanon and expand its assaults against it, there is no discussion about standing by Lebanon and the Lebanese against Israel."
It viewed the "political exploitation of the electricity crisis to target the National Liberal Movement as something expected from those who have a hand in thwarting electricity projects and plans, thus plunging Lebanon into darkness," warning that "it will not remain silent about any attempt to unjustly attack those who work honestly and with integrity to prevent darkness in Lebanon and have much to say on this matter."
The leadership of the Movement and the political body emphasized their "commitment to every individual in the Movement, whether active or responsible. They have never closed the door to dialogue on any internal or external issue, but within the framework of respecting the Movement's systems, principles, and policies, and not by inventing new party systems and concepts. Therefore, any discussion that takes place within the corridors of the Movement should not be through press conferences and showy media initiatives that lead nowhere, nor through the intentional and ongoing absence from meetings of the council and political body, as their members are the primary parties concerned with discussing internal matters."
