Buhbib Discusses Efforts to Reduce Tensions in Southern Lebanon

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants in the caretaker government, Abdullah Buhbib, discussed efforts to reduce tensions in southern Lebanon in a phone call with Jordanian Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi. Safadi warned of "the danger of the brutal Israeli aggression against Gaza expanding to the occupied West Bank and Lebanon, affecting the entire region."

He emphasized "the need for the international community to act immediately to de-escalate the situation on the Lebanese-Israeli border based on principles that respect Lebanon's borders, sovereignty, and security." Safadi affirmed "the necessity of adhering to relevant Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 1701, as a means to stop escalation and prevent dragging the region into another war that threatens regional and international security and stability."

The Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed Jordan's full support for brotherly Lebanon, its security, stability, and the safety of its citizens, and its support for all efforts aimed at reducing tension. He also warned that "the danger of war expansion is real and increasing as Israel continues its aggression against Gaza, along with the ongoing humanitarian disaster faced by the Palestinian people and the international community's failure to stop the aggression and compel Israel to respect international law and international humanitarian law and halt the killing of the Palestinian people through bombardment, starvation, and siege."

For his part, Minister Buhbib affirmed that "Lebanon relies on the solidarity and support of its Arab brothers, especially Jordan, as well as the United Nations and the international community, to curb the escalating Israeli threats." He stressed Lebanon's "diligent pursuit of the success of diplomatic solutions and existing mediations for the full implementation of Resolution 1701, which requires an immediate halt to Israeli military attacks, completion of the recognition of internationally recognized borders, cessation of violations and breaches of Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity, while enhancing support for the Lebanese army to fulfill its duties in maintaining security and stability in southern Lebanon in close cooperation with UNIFIL forces."
