Several new governors in Egypt continue their surprise field tours to ensure the regularity of services provided to Egyptians in hospitals, health centers, bakeries, food outlets, and other facilities. These unexpected inspections come to closely observe the problems facing Egyptian citizens, particularly in hospitals, to ensure that the medical sector operates effectively, especially after Egyptians previously suffered from severe shortages of medications. Additionally, these tours focus on bakeries to guarantee the availability of subsidized bread and its delivery to those entitled to receive it.
These field tours confirm that there are clear directives for on-ground work, as emphasized by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, indicating that fieldwork will be a top priority according to the mandates of President Sisi. In Assiut Governorate, there was a surprise visit to Al-Ghanayem Hospital, where the governor discovered the absence of the supervising doctor for the dialysis unit while nursing staff were providing care for kidney failure patients, prompting the governor to refer the hospital director and the supervising doctor for investigation.
In Sohag, Governor Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Siraj, accompanied by Deputy Governor Mohamed Abdel Hadi, conducted an unexpected field tour to monitor discipline in Sohag streets and assess cleanliness, addressing citizen complaints. The governor's tour included visits to several shops, workshops, and food storage units along the western agricultural road in the villages of Jazeera Shandweel, Sheikh Youssef, Shandweel Balad, and the city of Maragha. He directed local unit heads to review permits for these shops, remove encroachments from the roadside, confiscate them, and take legal action against violators to maintain an appropriate civilized appearance and ensure street discipline.
The Governor of Suez also appeared in a video discussing with a woman the negligence causing many problems, emphasizing that the state fulfills its responsibilities in establishing infrastructure and facilities, while the role of citizens is crucial in maintaining these vital services. It is noteworthy that the new governors took the constitutional oath before President Abdel Fattah Sisi on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, following the new ministers who had previously taken the oath at the Ittihadiya Palace.
In Alexandria, the largest campaign to remove encroachments this year was executed by the East district, leading to the removal of numerous violations along the Army Road, Loran, Freedom Road, Victoria level crossing, Jalaa Street, El-Saa, and Jamila Bou Hreid until reaching the Al-Awaid area within the district. A total of 1,552 various encroachments were confiscated, 238 electrical theft connections were removed, and immediate fines totaling 38,000 Egyptian pounds were collected, alongside sealing 6 violating establishments. The campaign also opened roads for traffic and pedestrians, removing all makeshift food stalls and seizing their equipment, clearing shops obstructing traffic and pedestrians, and sealing violating shops, resulting in 1,090 dilapidated encroachment cases, 391 various encroachment cases, 48 informal structures, and 23 awnings.
In South Sinai, Governor Lieutenant General Khaled Mubarak continued his surprise tours to inspect services provided to citizens in bakeries in the Salam district of Tor Sinai, as well as the warehouses of the General Company for Wholesale Trade, ensuring the condition of goods and storage quality.
Governors grabbing attention for bread and mint, and an incident involving a nurse has triggered discussions on social media. The incident regarding the harassment of a doctor at Maragha Hospital by the Sohag governor was widely circulated online, prompting the General Medical Syndicate to closely monitor the situation. The syndicate condemned the governor's actions and announced coordination with the Sohag Medical Syndicate to undertake necessary legal actions to defend the doctor and protect her rights.
Additionally, a video of Assiut Governor Hisham Abu Nasr surfaced, showcasing him instructing to buy goods from a street vendor selling mint in the East district and providing her with immediate financial assistance in a humane gesture considering her circumstances. Meanwhile, the Governor of Dakahlia faced significant criticism after entering a woman's home to inspect bread bags, which was perceived as a legal overreach.
