Photos of French Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra embracing and kissing President Emmanuel Macron during the Olympic Games opening ceremony sparked significant buzz in France and on social media. Oudéa-Castéra, 46, was seen hugging the 46-year-old president and kissing him near his neck. Prime Minister Gabriel Attal was also featured in the images, looking away while Oudéa-Castéra embraced Macron. A commentator noted that "Attal doesn’t know where to look."
The newspaper "Mediapart" wrote: "After the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, the pressure had eased, allowing room for euphoria. In a burst of joy, Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra and President Emmanuel Macron kissed each other. The kiss caused quite a stir."
The magazine "Madame Figaro", which first highlighted the photo, described it as a "strange kiss," noting that the minister is "certainly aware of how to make people talk about her."
Social media users quickly commented on the photos, with one writing, "What is this kiss between Oudéa and Macron?" and another saying, "Brigitte won't like that."
Regarding the Olympic Games, Oudéa-Castéra told "CNews": "The French have fallen in love with the Olympic Games," adding that 85% of them considered the opening ceremony a success. Macron remarked after the ceremony, "They will be talking about it (the Olympic Games) for the next hundred years."
