French Foreign Ministry Takes Action: Sigourney's Visit to Lebanon

Alongside the activities of French President Emmanuel Macron, there has been movement from Foreign Minister Stéphane Sigourney, with information circulating in Paris suggesting his visit to Lebanon this week. He previously visited Lebanon twice in January and April this year to promote a plan to de-escalate the confrontation between Hezbollah and Israel, following the initiation of the guerrilla warfare being carried out by Hezbollah in support of Gaza, according to "Asharq Al-Awsat."

Lebanon had agreed to the French plan with minor adjustments, while Israel has not officially responded to it. However, the plan has not been implemented primarily because Hezbollah links the war in Gaza to the support war, and as long as the former continues, the latter will also persist. On Saturday, Sigourney consulted with his American counterpart Antony Blinken regarding the situation in the Middle East, both calling for utmost restraint as Washington continues to enhance its military presence in the region to ensure the security of its forces and defend Israel, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.

The spokesperson for the French Foreign Ministry stated that the two ministers share concerns about the escalating tensions in the region and agreed to continue urging all parties to exercise the highest degree of restraint to avoid any regional escalation that could have devastating consequences for the countries involved, according to "Asharq Al-Awsat."
