Many of us experience bloating from time to time, a condition that is not alarming but can be uncomfortable. If you can no longer bear the annoying bloating, you can consume one of seven fruits recommended by gastroenterologist Joseph Saleh from Florida to relieve the pressure in your abdomen. Dr. Saleh suggests eating blueberries, dates, figs, kiwis, guavas, papayas, and pineapples to soothe a bloated, tense stomach.
In a TikTok video that garnered over 47,700 views this week, Dr. Saleh referenced a 2022 study that found vitamin C increases levels of Bifidobacterium, which helps restore the natural balance of gut bacteria, reduce episodes of diarrhea, protect against unwanted bacteria, and aid in food digestion and nutrient absorption. It is known that gut bacteria assist in digesting fiber, absorbing nutrients, and enhancing immunity.
The doctor explains, "One way to improve gut health is by eating more fiber-rich foods with vitamin C. This has been shown to increase good gut bacteria for optimal digestive health." He advises those suffering from irritable bowel syndrome to gradually test their tolerance of these seven foods, as the fructose found in fruit can trigger IBS symptoms.
