Dolce & Gabbana Launches Perfume for Dogs

The luxury Italian fashion house "Dolce & Gabbana" has launched a new perfume for dogs, a move that has sparked immediate criticism from animal rights advocates. The brand explained on its website that "this carefully crafted alcohol-free blend, inspired by Domenico Dolce's unconditional love for his loyal dog, Vivienne, combines the refreshing and delicate scents of ylang-ylang, musk, and sandalwood." The website described this product as "a delicate and captivating fragrance designed for a playful grooming routine."

This perfume bottle is sold for 99 euros and features a 24-carat gold-plated paw print and a pendant with the "Dolce & Gabbana" logo. Ingrid Newkirk, founder of the organization "PETA," stated in a message sent to Agence France-Presse that dogs "have hundreds of millions of additional receptors in their noses and possess a sense of smell that is 10,000 to 100,000 times better than humans." She pointed out that the scents sprayed on their fur "can cause them discomfort and stress and interfere with their ability to detect other scents in their environment and communicate with other animals they encounter."
