Israeli drones targeted a car near the Al-Hasbah roundabout in the city of Sidon, which contained Samer Al-Hajj and his companion, killing them instantly.
Who is Samer Al-Hajj?
Samer Al-Hajj belongs to the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and holds the position of security chief in the Ain al-Hilweh camp. He is considered one of the key figures who restored calm to the camp after recent clashes between Fatah and fundamentalist groups. Al-Hajj is known as Abu Ahmad Fadl and was assassinated by two missiles fired by an Israeli drone shortly after he exited the camp, where he was attending a meeting.
Hamas mourned the loss of their leader Samer Al-Hajj in a statement, indicating that he "martyred in a treacherous Israeli airstrike in the city of Sidon in southern Lebanon this afternoon."
In contrast, Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee announced the killing of Samer Al-Hajj, stating via the "X" platform: "Israeli Air Force jets attacked a short while ago in the Sidon area and eliminated the individual Samer Mahmoud Al-Hajj, a Hamas leader in Lebanon responsible for launching rocket attacks from Lebanon towards Israeli territory."
He added: "Samer served as the commander of the military force in the Ain al-Hilweh camp in the Sidon area and was responsible for recruiting and training militants to target the State of Israel."
