South Lebanon... Gunfire and Hezbollah Shells Military Base with Katyushas

Israeli warplanes attacked the town of Shihine in the western sector today, Monday. The Israeli army opened heavy machine gun fire at dawn towards the forests adjacent to the towns of Ramya, Aita al-Shaab, and Naqoura. The Lebanese National News Agency reported today that "hostile reconnaissance and drone aircraft intensified their flights over the villages of the western and central sectors throughout the night until this morning." It added, "Illuminating bombs filled the sky over the area, reaching the outskirts of the city of Tyre." At night, "Hezbollah" announced targeting the newly established headquarters of the 146th Brigade in Jaitoun with volleys of Katyusha rockets "in response to the enemy's attacks on the steadfast southern villages and safe homes, particularly in the town of Ma'roub."

On the Israeli side, Channel 14 indicated that at least 30 rockets were launched from Lebanon early today towards the coastal city of Nahariya and other settlements in the Galilee, noting that air defenses intercepted some of them. Channel 12 pointed out that firefighting teams were combating several fires that broke out in western Galilee as a result of rocket fire from Lebanon. Yedioth Ahronoth reported that sirens sounded in Nahariya and its suburbs as dozens of rocket shells were detected, adding that no injuries were reported. For its part, Israel Hayom mentioned that the rocket barrage targeted 8 settlements in western Galilee, while Israeli media noted that a fire broke out in a town near Nahariya due to falling rockets.

Hezbollah and the Israeli army have been exchanging fire almost daily since October 8, amid serious fears of the region slipping into a full-scale war in anticipation of the Iranian and Lebanese organization's response to the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah leader Fouad Shukr.
