Hwang In-beom led South Korea to its first victory in the 2026 World Cup, defeating the Czech Republic 2-1 early Thursday at the 'Acron' Stadium in Guadalajara, before 44,000 spectators. Hwang scored South Korea's equalizer in the 67th minute and provided an assist for the second goal, netted by substitute Oh Hyeon-gyu in the 80th minute, following an opener by Ladislav Krejci for the Czech Republic in the 59th minute.

Mexico topped Group A after defeating South Africa 2-0 in the tournament's opening match, leading by goal difference over South Korea.

The South Korean team secured its first win against the Czech Republic in World Cup finals, following three previous friendly encounters, where they achieved one win, one loss, and one draw.
