In a decisive move against corruption, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi has announced significant financial incentives for citizens who report public assets and funds acquired through corrupt activities.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister's office, Al-Zaidi is calling on all citizens to report such ill-gotten gains, urging them to contribute to the exposure and recovery of these resources for the state. This initiative aligns with the moral and national responsibility to protect public funds, as stated in the government's ministerial program, reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
The statement further elaborated that the Prime Minister's directive includes rewarding informants with substantial financial compensation, acknowledging their national duty and supporting anti-corruption efforts to safeguard public finances.
Authorities will soon announce an online platform dedicated to receiving reports related to this issue.
Earlier, Al-Zaidi reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing those implicated in corruption and recovering the rights of the Iraqi people. During a visit to the Ministry of Interior, he emphasized that corruption will not be tolerated, regardless of the perpetrator's affiliations.
Recently, the Iraqi government reiterated its steadfast determination to pursue those involved in embezzling public funds and engaging in dubious deals.
This follows the arrest of Deputy Oil Minister Adnan Al-Jumaili in May, leading to the exposure of numerous implicated individuals, including lawmakers, officials, and businessmen, in corruption cases.
Confessions from Al-Jumaili implicated high-profile figures, and a subsequent law enforcement operation dubbed "Dawn Raid" resulted in the arrest of approximately 67 individuals, primarily lawmakers, officials, and businessmen, last Sunday.
Legal advisor Judge Munir Haddad estimated that the embezzled funds from Iraq, since 2003 to date, exceed two trillion dollars, describing the scale of the thefts and accused individuals' assets as staggering and beyond logic.
