Israeli documents have emerged, allegedly revealing intelligence that Hezbollah provided to Hamas's Al-Qassam Brigades during the 2021 Battle of 'Sword of Jerusalem'. These intel exchanges reportedly prevented the assassination of a high-ranking military figure in Northern Gaza and thwarted plans to uncover Hamas’s tunnel networks.
The report, published by Israeli Army Radio, outlines the collaboration trajectory between Hamas and Hezbollah in the years leading up to the 'Al-Aqsa Flood' attack on October 7, 2023, and details Hezbollah's stance on joining the battle based on Al-Qassam Brigades' leadership directives.
The documents noted the first major test of Hezbollah-Hamas coordination occurred during the 'Sword of Jerusalem' conflict, where a joint intelligence operations room was set up in Beirut, involving Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran's Revolutionary Guard, providing crucial intel to Hamas during the skirmish.
The radio cited an internal document purportedly written by Hamas's expatriate military intelligence chief, indicating that the operation room was active from the second day of the battle until the day after.
The document further detailed that participants asked Hamas for specific intel needs, to which they requested data on military deployments, aerial intelligence activity, and fighter jet operations.
According to the report, Hezbollah played a role in dismantling the deception element accompanying the May 2021 conflict, a comprehensive plan designed to target Hamas's tunnel networks in Gaza via intensive airstrikes.
The Israeli ploy involved feigning readiness for a ground operation in Gaza to prompt Hamas operatives to move through tunnel networks, thereby creating a 'target bank' for subsequent air assault.
The broadcast also stated that Hezbollah provided additional intelligence assistance to Hamas, preventing an assassination attempt on Hamas Northern Gaza Brigade Leader, Ahmed Al-Ghandour, who was subsequently killed later during a genocidal assault on Gaza two hours before its scheduled time, following intensive intelligence monitoring over Jabalia Camp.
